Laboratory Head, Neurophysiology of Excitable Networks Laboratory — Epilepsy

I have a background in fundamental and pathophysiological neuroscience having published 70 papers in high quality peer-reviewed journals. Early work (pre-2006) involved using technically demanding experimental approaches to investigate fundamental properties of synaptic transmission. This included working at the National Institute for Medical Research in London on long-term potentiation with Professor Tim Bliss. On return to Australia in 2002 I developed an interest in epilepsy research. A large part of this work has focused on understanding the neuronal mechanisms underlying pathogenesis in the genetic epilepsies.
