Research Assistant - Epilepsy Ion Channels

The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health employs more than 400 people who are passionately committed to researching the way the brain works. Key areas of interest include addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, depression, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, stroke and traumatic and spinal cord injury.

An excellent opportunity is available for a highly motivated individual to join an outstanding team of scientists at the Florey Institute and work within the Epilepsy Ion Channels Laboratory at our Parkville facility. The role will primarily be responsible for small animal EEG, in vivo electrophysiology and micro dialysis platform

The Florey is offering an annual salary of $67157 (RA2) plus 14% superannuation and generous salary packaging options.

The successful candidate will be responsible for mouse handling, anesthesia and general surgery as well as the delivery of drugs and therapies to mice via oral, ICV or injection. Other duties include record keeping and compliance and data analysis and presentation in written and verbal reports. The position asks for experience in small animal surgery with a Degree in physiology, neuroscience or related area. A full position description is available.
