Students of the Florey Institute

The Students of Florey postgraduate group (SOFI) was established in 1999 to enhance the academic, social, and professional lives of Florey students.

SOFI represents the interests of the students of the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health and also acts to represent honoraries, masters, postgraduate and undergraduate students to both the Florey and the University, and is affiliated to the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association.

SOFI organises a variety of academic, career enhancing, networking and social activities each year for the express purpose of creating new opportunities, personal and career development as well as fun and enjoyment for all students - at minimal cost.

Each year kicks off with a hot sausage and a warm welcome to all new students and staff at the annual SOFI BBQ. Various events follow throughout the year from DVD and trivia nights to career forums and symposiums. The social highlight of the year, the student retreat, is a great way to form new friendships as well as learn about other student's work and even take home a few ideas for your own project.

  • Enhance the academic and professional life of SOFI Postgraduate Students
  • Encourage social interaction of students within the Florey Institute of Neuroscience & Mental Health
  • Represent the students of the Florey Institute of Neuroscience & Mental Health within the Institute and Melbourne
