The Florey has three laboratories conducting traumatic brain and spinal cord injury research:

- Molecular Neuropharmacology Laboratory led by Prof Philip Beart
- Brain Development Laboratory led by Prof Seong-Seng Tan

Australian Statistics
- 1 in 50 Australians have an acquired brain injury.
- 31% of Australians with disabilities are employed full-time, compared to only 17% of those with an acquired brain injury.
- 2.2% of men and 1.6% women are affected by some form of traumatic brain or spinal cord injury in Australia.
- The majority of spinal cord injury accidents in Australia involve young people aged between 17 and 30 years, with 28% of spinal cord injuries occurring in the 15-24 year old age group.
- According to the World Health Organization, traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults around the world and is involved in nearly half of all trauma deaths.
Brain Development
Led by Professor Seong-Seng Tan, the Brain Development Laboratory is interested in understanding how brain cells are properly assembled during development.
