The Florey has three laboratories conducting stroke research:
- Stroke and Spinal Cord Injury Laboratory led by Prof Bevyn Jarrott
- Molecular Pharmacology Laboratory led by Prof Philip Beart
- Brain Development Laboratory led by Prof Seong-Seng Tan

Australian Statistics
- Stroke is Australia's third largest killer after cancer and heart disease.
- A stroke happens every 11 minutes to an Australian.
- Stroke affects approximately 48,000 Australians every year.
- Over 50% of strokes are under the age of 75 years with around 5% of strokes under the age of 45 years.
- Approximately 20% of Australian patients die from the immediate effects of stroke.
- About 282,600 Australians with stroke had a disability and in around 146,400 of these people the disability resulted from their stroke.
- 52% of those who have a stroke are male.
