The Florey has two laboratories iconducting epilepsy research:
- Ion Channels and Human Disease Laboratory led by Dr Steven Petrou
- Brain Development Laboratory led by Prof Seong-Seng Tan

Australian Statistics
- 1 in 200 Australians has epilepsy.
- Between 3% and 5% of Australians will experience a seizure during their lifetime, but won't necessarily go on to develop epilepsy.
- According to the World Health Organization, 50 million people world-wide have epilepsy and there are 2 million new cases occurring in the world every year.
- Around 70% of Australians with epilepsy can control their seizures with medication, whilst 30% have more challenging epilepsy where frequent seizures are experienced despite medication.
