Workplace Giving
Workplace giving makes giving to brain research easy... and you get the tax benefits immediately by making your donation in pre-tax dollars.
What is workplace giving?
Workplace giving is an easy and effective way for you to regularly donate to the Howard Florey Institute through automated payroll deductions. You pledge a nominated amount and your employer sends it directly to us.
What’s in it for you?
By making your donation through a workplace giving pre-tax program, you receive the benefit of an immediate tax deduction from your wage. You are assured that we receive your donation free of extra costs. Ultimately this means that less money is spent on fundraising and more can be used for our research. You can be involved with the Florey as little or as much as you like. Workplace giving even lets you donate anonymously.
No time? No hassle!
Workplace giving does not require a lot of time or effort from you. If your employer has a workplace giving program in place, simply complete our Workplace Giving Deduction Authority and give it to your payroll officer. If your employer does not have a workplace giving program in place, you can find out more and download a kit at www.partnerships.gov.au.
What happens at tax time?
Your employer will keep a record of your donations across the year and provide you with a statement along with your group certificate for the amount you have donated. There’s no more hunting around for receipts. With workplace giving, you get the tax benefit of your donation immediately. It’s an easy way to give!
Based on ABS Australia labour market statistics of March 2005, if just 10% of the Australian workforce donated $5 a week from their pay through workplace giving, an extra $250 million per year would be raised.
FAQ’s
How can I find out more about the Florey’s work?
We are happy to visit your workplace and talk with your staff. We can even bring a scientist to talk about some recent discoveries. Or you can explore this website. Email our Development Manager, Irene Crebbin, today.
How much do I have to donate?
Ask your payroll officer if your employer has a minimum amount. Generally, you can donate $2 or more each pay period.
Can I make a one-off donation via workplace giving?
No. But you can donate on our website through Our Community. This is a secure site for not-for-profit groups. Only the usual credit card fees apply so most of your donation comes to us. Click here to donate today.
What if my life circumstances change?
Talk to your payroll officer if you want to change the amount you give each pay period or if your personal details change. If you are receiving our quarterly newsletter or our E-News, let us know of any changes so that we can update our records.
How does my employer send my donation to the Florey?
All the donations made to us at your workplace are provided regularly as a lump sum by cheque of by electronic funds transfer (EFT). The details are on our Workplace Giving Deduction Authority.
How will my donation be spent?
Your donation will help us to buy state-of-the-art-equipment or it will help to employ some of Australia’s brightest young scientists. It will help meet the cost of research into areas such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and mortor neuron diseases, stroke, dementia, epilepsy, schizophrenia, depression and brain development.
