Bequests to brain research
Fulfilling your dreams… and ours
For most Australian’s, providing a healthy, safe and rewarding life for their family is their first priority. Making gifts to charitable causes is often not possible. But there is a way to do both.
By including a bequest in your Will, you can help brain research at the Florey Neuroscience Institutes in a way that you could only dream of in your own lifetime.
A bequest is also a great way to ensure that your family knows that you care for the Florey Neuroscience Institutes and that you want your support to continue.
What is a bequest?
A bequest is simply a gift that you detail in your Will. It can be a gift of cash, property, shares or other investments. You nominate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residue remaining after your other wishes are met.
What can I give?
Most people who make a bequest are happy to allow the Florey to decide the best way to use their gift. However, you can request your gift to be directed to a specific brain research area or other purpose. If you wish to do this, we ask that you to talk to us first. Medical research is moving rapidly and answers are being found every day. It may also be difficult to implement your wishes in years to come if your instructions are too particular.
Is a bequest a large gift?
All types and sizes of bequests are welcome. Large gifts can fund individual projects or buy special equipment. More modest gifts can combine with others to help meet the greatest area of need.
How do I make a bequest?
Your bequest must be properly detailed in your Will.
What is a will?
A Will is the legal document that every adult should have to protect the assets they have worked hard to accumulate. A Will is not just wealthy or older people. Your Will allows you to say how you want your assets distributed after your death, including gifts to your favourite charities. If you don't have a Will, your assets will be distributed according to a pre-determined legal formula.
By making a Will, you will also be helping your family and the people you care for. Your wishes will be clear and nothing will be left to chance. If you want your support for the Florey Neuroscience Institutes to continue beyond your own lifetime, your Will is the practical way to do this.
Do I need legal advice?
We strongly advise you to seek qualified legal advice when making or revising your Will. It is important to understand that someone may challenge your Will if it is not drawn up correctly. If you do not have a legal advisor, the following independent organisations can help you. You are also welcome to talk to the Florey.
