Applying for Candidature at the Florey

Students undertaking Graduate Research (GRs) in the Florey Department of Neuroscience and Mental Health will be applying to undertake their studies through the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne.

The administering department for candidature will be the Florey Department of Neuroscience and Mental Health, based at the Kenneth Myer Building, University of Melbourne, Royal Parade, Parkville.


Before you Apply:

The following steps will assist you with the preparation and submission of your application:

Make sure that you meet the entry requirements for the research degree program listed in the Eligibility Criteria for the Graduate Research program you are interested in:  Eligibility Requirements

  • Obtain an original or certified copy of your academic transcript/s to submit with your application.
  • Contact a supervisor at the Florey to discuss your research proposal and the opportunity that they may supervise your research. (You may want to explore the research projects that are available prior to contacting a potential supervisor.)
  • Florey Students Project Guide.
  • Prepare a curriculum vitae (CV) in the required format.
  • Provide evidence of meeting the English language requirements (International applicants only).
  • Application submission is via Future Students - Graduate Research Degrees.


NOTE: An application for a research degree program with the Florey will not be considered unless you have contacted a supervisor/s and they have advised you that they are willing to supervise your research. Evidence of this may be required.

After you submit your application for candidature

Following submission of your application for candidature, it will be forwarded to the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences for initial processing, and will then be forwarded to the Department further processing.

Scoring of applications will take place for all local students who have applied for scholarships and for all international students.

Scholarship processing occurs in parallel to the candidature process.

If your application is ‘complete’ (see Application Checklist), all documentation is provided, you meet all eligibility requirements and your application is supported by both the Department and the Faculty, you will be advised of the final decision by the Melbourne School of Graduate Research (local students) or the International Admissions office (international students).
