Synaptic Plasticity

The Synaptic Plasticity laboratory looks at the synaptic activity connecting neurons, and how this affects epilepsy. Researchers study synaptic transmission and the function of ion channels and other receptors in modulating the manner in which neurons communicate.

External stimuli will affect the charge to the synapse and determine how it reacts. Sometimes this cause is genetic and other times it is environmental and the laboratory investigates how this could be moderated to help control the disease.
