MRI Use Procedures
Conditions
All projects must satisfy the following conditions before proceeding:
Ethics approval must be obtained from an ethics committee recognised by the NHMRC for projects involving live animals. The Facility Manager will assist researchers in gaining approval from HFI Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) through a specific MRI AEC application form, submitted with evidence of prior institutional approval. If no prior approval, then a full HFI AEC application is to be submitted.
Please refer to the Facility's OH&S Information Sheet for your safety.
Project Management
Payment must be received within 14 days of invoicing after completion of the scan.
The Howard Florey Institute requires all projects to comply with the Australian codes for responsible conduct of research, and care and use of animals.
The health status of all animals to be scanned must be approved by the animal services manager before coming on site. Note: no animals can be brought on site without bio-security check of animal housing.
Annual progress reports and copies of all published papers and/or meeting abstracts resulting from data collected on the 4.7T scanner will be submitted to the Howard Florey Institute.
Step 1
• Email Facility Manager indicating your requirements. a.magnet@florey.edu.au
Step 2
• Facility Manager will contact the Chief Investigator to discuss feasibility and type of access required.
• Determine appropriate pricing and payment schedule. Draft agreement circulated for comment.
Step 3
• Submit either an approved ethics application from a NHMRC recognised committee with an additional HFI AEC MRI Application, or a new HFI application, to the Howard Florey Institute Animal Ethics Committee. Receive approval.
• If necessary submit a Field Site notification form to the Bureau of Animal Welfare.
• For all genetically modified animals OGTR approval must be obtained.
• Seek approval from the Howard Florey Institute Animal Services Manager to bring animals on site (contact: Craig Thomson (03) 8344 0409 craig.thomson@florey.edu.au).
Note: HFI is currently unable to provide overnight housing of animals from another site, we hope to have an animal house available in 2008.
Step 4
• Agreement signed by HFI, and other scientific partner.
• Determine availability of MRI scanner from availability calendar: www.cfn.unimelb.edu.au/mrbs
• Download booking form, complete and email to Facility Manager a.magnet@florey.edu.au
