Multiple Sclerosis Group

The Multiple Sclerosis Group has two scientific laboratories

The Multiple Sclerosis Laboratory

Led by Professor Trevor J. Kilpatrick and supported by sixteen staff and eight students, the Multiple Sclerosis Laboratory is focused on developing strategies to limit the severity of demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, of which multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common cause.

The Neurogenetics Laboratory

Led by Dr Justin Rubio and supported by four staff and one student, the Neurogenetics Laboratory investigates the genetic basis of human neurological disease.  The laboratory does this by

  • using and developing the latest genetic tools and gene mapping methods to identify genetic mutations and novel gene loci that either influence disease susceptibility or other aspects of the disease phenotype (eg. severity).
  • investigating the relationship between genetic variation and disease-causing genetic mutations and gene expression in cell-based systems.
