Scientific Laboratories

The Howard Florey Institute is Australia’s leading brain research centre. Its scientists undertake clinical and applied research that can be developed into treatments to combat brain disorders, and new medical practices. Their discoveries will improve the lives of those directly, and indirectly, affected by brain and mind disorders in Australia, and around the world. The Florey’s research areas cover a variety of brain and mind disorders including Parkinson’s disease, stroke, motor neuron disease, addiction, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and dementia.

The Howard Florey Institute now houses a range of cutting-edge research programs directed at gaining a deeper understanding of brain structure and function in health and disease. Our aim is to advance the search for more effective treatments and ultimately the prevention of brain and mind disorders. Neuroscience involves many different scientific disciplines and our work spans from the molecular, cellular and whole brain, through to conscious humans, family and population studies.

To meet these ends, the Howard Florey Institute has several scientific laboratory groups headed by leading scientists and supported by excellent teams of staff and students.
