Integrative Neuroscience Facility
We can help you realise the full potential of your animal model
The Integrative Neuroscience Facility (INF) provides state-of-the-art phenotyping services for genetically and pharmacologically altered rodent models. We serve institutes, universities and the commercial biotechnology sector.
We are specialists at identifying changes in the brain due to genetic manipulation, therapeutic agents or pathological processes.
Genetic modifications made to understand a specific biological function or human disease process may produce physiological and behavioural changes beyond those under study. Investigators who don’t have the time or resources to fully characterise the phenotype of their animal models may lose a rich source of additional data. This is where we can help you get the most out of your rodent.
The INF can design, execute, and deliver experiments, and welcomes the opportunity for collaborative neurobiological research.
Overview
The INF works with investigators to fully characterise the phenotype of genetically and pharmacologically altered rodents, with a focus on neurobiological and pharmacological research and preclinical drug testing for industry.
The facility provides a range of state-of-the-art phenotyping services including gross and histomorphological examination, pharmacological tests, specialised pathological services, proof of knock-out, and a wide range of behavioral analyses. We also offer a range of new and established rodent models.
The Team
Under the direction of Professor Mal Horne (Howard Florey Institute), the INF engages expert consultants and employs a technical team who conduct studies in the areas of Parkinson’s disease, alcohol and drug addiction, epilepsy, stroke, Huntington’s disease and motor neuron disease.
A Scientific Advisory Committee chaired by Prof Mike Calford (University of Newcastle) provides neuroscience expertise to the INF.
The Facility
The INF is located in the Howard Florey Institute and benefits from strong collaborative ties with the Institute.
The INF is one of eight platforms of the National Neuroscience Facility funded under the Australian Government’s Major National Research Facility program, and further supported by the Victorian State Government’s Science Technology and Innovation program. Fees paid by users support the operating costs of the Facility.
