The brain regulates body temperature, keeping it within a narrow range. The consequences when this fails can be life-threatening: elderly people, whose temperature regulation may be impaired, frequently die of heat stroke during heat waves. The Systems Electrophysiology laboratory looks into the master temperature controller region in the brain is called the preoptic area.
“The human brain now holds the key to our future. We have to recall the image of the planet from outer space: a single entity in which air, water, and continents are interconnected. That is our home.” ~ David Suzuki
