The published image was taken from Dr. Stanic’s original article in the current issue, which describes the distribution of NPY in the mouse brain and, for the first time, its relationship with two receptors through which its actions are mediated, the Y1 and Y2 receptors.

‘NPY is known to regulate a variety of physiological responses, including control of food intake, metabolism, anxiety-related behaviours, memory processing and seizure control’, said Dr Stanic.

The work also provides insight into mechanisms by which the Y1 and Y2 receptors regulate the release of NPY and other major neurotransmitter-related molecules in the brain.

‘The precise mechanisms underlying NPY’s actions remain uncertain, however, and so a better understanding in this area will be important if we are to develop new therapies for neurological conditions based on manipulation of NPY-mediated effects in the brain, he said.

This journal is renowned for the extremely high standards it places on the quality of artwork and the cover feature is an excellent achievement.
