Dr Peter Agre MD - 'My life in science'

A recording of the 11th Kenneth Myer Lecture delivered by Dr Peter Agre MD - 'My life in science' on 12 July 2007 is now available below in high and low resolution.

Dr Agre’s free public lecture ‘My life in science’ traces the unusual story of his own scientific development. His life in science began in a small Minnesota farming community (where he narrowly passed high school Chemistry), and eventually took him to Stockholm, Sweden, where he was co-recipient of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Dr Agre draws upon his personal history as he examines the role of science in the public sphere, with a particular focus on the importance of science education.

Dr Agre won the 2003 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his laboratory’s 1991 discovery of the ‘channels’ that regulate and facilitate water molecule transport through cell membranes, a process that is essential to all living organisms. Dr Agre is currently the Vice Chancellor for Science and Technology, Duke University, North Carolina, USA.
